Blood Trailing on a God Hunt

As I was driving to work today I was thinking about a growth group conversation not too long ago on Colossians 4:2 - "Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving." We discussed what we each thought it meant to be watchful in prayer. And one mother told us of "God hunts" she used to go on with her children when they were younger. In these "God hunts" she taught them the importance of watching for God through out their days, looking for ways that He was speaking to them. Being still and looking, watching, being on the hunt for how God was going to show His love to them each day.
What a brilliant idea!!!!
I really liked this idea, not only for me, but hopefully I will do this with my children one day! But for now, I have been putting it to use. So on my drive up Highway 25 this morning I was noticing the beautiful fall leaves that are changing colors outside. Now here in Mississippi the colors don't get brilliantly bright like up north, but they are bright enough to bring a sense of awe and wonder at the Creator and His creativity in His gorgeous creation!
I was looking at the different colors, and every now and then I would catch a glimpse of the brightest red leaves I have ever seen! They were just speckled in and out of the orange and yellow and the many that are still green. But about every 50 yards or so there would be a gorgeous clump of red that made me gasp.
As I looked at those clumps of red my eyes caught a glimpse of something. Me being (the a-typical girl) a hunter and an artist... my two thought patterns converged and made for a great God hunt!
Now if any of you have ever been deer hunting, you know that sometimes the deer doesn't just drop dead after you shoot it. Sometimes their adrenaline pumps and they can run a good ways (not too too far if you're a good shot!) :) If they do run like this after being shot, then you have to blood trail them. Especially if you shoot the deer at dusk, then you have to slowly move from one spot of blood to the next trying to follow the signs to your trophy buck! (Ok, ok so maybe it's a doe, either way it's meat in the freezer!) Sometimes it might be a tiny spot of blood under a leaf and so you search, watching carefully.
All of these clumps of red leaves on Highway 25 captivated my attention and my imagination saw a big, huge blood trail! I drove and my eyes moved from clump to clump of red, some were small and some were big bunches of bold red color. My mind then asked... what am I trailing?!
Then it hit me! I was hunting for God! Now this may seem a little far fetched to you, but hang in there with me, because God reveals Himself to us in many ways... creation is one way that every man on earth can know God. It's His "natural revelation" to us. It leaves man without excuse for not knowing Him.
So as my eyes followed from one "blood red" clump of leaves to the next I couldn't help but think of my Savior! My mind immediately followed the blood trail of gorgeous red leaves right to the foot of the cross where Jesus in all of His love gave up His life for me, shedding His precious blood to rescue me from the dominion of darkness! What else could this blood trail lead to? After all He was there in the beginning, He was there to design and create all the leaves, the colors they would turn; He was there on that cross, spilling His precious blood that flowed from His hands, feet, head and side, He's there every season painting the leaves, deciding which colors will go where, He is intimately involved in His creation and the lives of His children!
And He, the LORD of all creation is there loving me, leading me, wooing me daily. He is the one that swiped His blood stained hands over those leaves... that set that trail out for me, leading my heart and mind back to Him. He is the Lover, my Savior that finds creative ways to draw me back to Him in complete dependence daily.
Praise the LORD for the blood trail that led me back to the foot of the Cross again where I am always humbled and in need of His saving grace!
